Features of the construction of the “Canadian felling”

During the construction of a wooden house, several options for preparing and joining logs are used. One of the most popular methods of making a log house using the Canadian bowl technology, which combines the advantages of Russian and Norwegian felling. The laying of solid logs was borrowed from the “Russian” method, and a special design of the cup was borrowed from the “Norwegian” method, which allows you to completely get rid of gaps in the joints of the crowns after the “ripening” of the frame.

What is a “Canadian bowl”

The sample in the log has the shape of a trapezoid and is divided into three sections: the outer groove, the countersunk spike and the bowl. The contour of the castle is drawn with the help of a special marking compass, then the wood is removed manually using an electric saw. In the upper part of the log, as usual, a groove with grooves is made, and a thorn (“fat tail”) is cut out in the lower part. This technologically sophisticated element prevents blow-out of the corner cuts, ensures a tight fit of the crowns after they have dried and shrunk.

The process is carried out on the basis of the enterprise in accordance with the technical requirements of the project agreed with the client. The factory stage is divided into several operations.

  1. Selection of logs of the desired condition and size. To make the walls of the log house even and reliable, dense tree trunks with a diameter of 30-50 cm and a length of 6-12 m are selected.
  2. Primary timber processing. The bark is shaved off with Canadian planers so as not to damage the top layer of the wood. Logs are not rounded
  3. Basic processing. The workpieces are sanded and cut to the desired size along the length. Using an accurate measuring tool, mark the grooves of the joints, then cut them out and be sure to grind them.
  4. Pre-assembly. Log wall elements are adjusted in order to minimize gaps in joints and gaps between crowns. The workpieces are numbered and sent for additional control.

The factory stage ends with the dismantling of the structure and preparation for transportation.

Assembling a wooden house at the customer’s site

Waterproofing is laid on the pre-laid foundation and the lower crown is mounted. According to the marking, the logs are laid sequentially, forming the walls. To prevent the house blocking from being blown through, the insulating channels are filled with linen sealant. In window and door openings, special reinforcing elements are mounted and the gaps are calculated taking into account the upcoming shrinkage and shrinkage of wooden walls.

To protect the wooden structure from fungus, bark beetle and the harmful effects of the external environment, they are treated with an antiseptic preparation. To increase its efficiency, impregnation is carried out three times: during cutting of logs and sawing grooves, after preliminary assembly and during final assembly.

Advantages of building a wooden house using Canadian felling technology

  • High level of thermal insulation. Thanks to the precise fit of the joints and the shape of the bowl, the walls are transformed into a solid mass, while the gaskets are completely invisible from the outside.
  • Preservation of the top layer of wood. It is resistant to freezing, provides air exchange between the room and the street.
  • Grinding the bowl. It helps to close the pores in the wood, preventing moisture from entering the logs.

The walls of the Canadian log house do not need additional finishing. They can be primed and coated with latex acrylic paint to prolong their life.
